Sweetwater Wetlands park a well known place for birders was marred on my visit only by a recent controlled burn to reduce mosquito population. Fortunately, it is done over two areas on different days. The smell of the burn was high but still didn’t slow the enjoyment of this habitat.

Thinking it'd be more interesting & park-like, it was a boring walkabout, though we did see a (Cooper's?) hawk & there's a small pond full of ducks. Later we learned there are several of these areas with the same name - this one prohibits dogs whereas another (the others?) allows them (we had to leave their dog at home).

Once it was probably a great respite so near the city. Today, the charred remains of trees, brush and skeletal reeds leaves a sadness of the beauty that was once here.

Wow this place is a breath of fresh air in the desert! So much lush green vegetation and more water than you’ll see in most areas of Tucson. Lots of different types of birds here. Trails are way to navigate. You can work your way all around the area and back to the entrance. Definitely a must!

What a charming little ecosystem. Dragonflies perch on top of blades of tall grass, and bird calls bounce off the water.

Gorgeous gorgeous little park. It’s a quaint little park, but it’s smaller size is made up with how lovely and plentiful the wildlife is here. So many birds! I could fall asleep to the sound of this park. I’m from Indiana and I was missing the smell of water and it’s certainly here. Great for a walk on a warm winter afternoon.

Sweetwater Wetlands is a local wildlife preserve located in Tucson. It hosts a variety of birds and a hawk actually flew right over my husband’s head! The walking trails are nice and there are placards with information. You may want to check to make sure that you don’t arrive during a controlled burn. We enjoyed it and plan to return.

If you are into serenity, birds, and nature itself, you have to checkout Sweetwater Wetlands! Who knew such an oasis existed here in Tucson?! Until a few days ago, I didn't! I was so impressed with the whole experience! I love ?, so I was in heaven. There are paved paths and unpaved paths that encircle the wetlands that make for easy walking, lots of shade made by beautiful big trees, and benches scattered throughout if you want to just sit and take in the beauty. To tell you the truth, I didn't read much about the background or history. My bad. I was just excited to be invited to go see some birds! And birds I did see, and a couple rabbits, ducks, and turtles as well. We also heard bullfrogs, although we could not spot them. Hopefully, on the next visit, we will be more successful! Believe me, there will be more visits in my future! Sweetwater Wetlands gets a big thumbs ?!
