John is truly amazing! While the work he did for me was not conservation… he is a master craftsman. For decades I have wanted a hidden bookcase door and now in our mid century modern house it has finally happened… thanks to Mr. Steffen. I had gone through a list of woodworkers and contractors who said they just couldn’t do it but not John. He looked at it as a challenge and he exceeded all expectations. I feel so lucky to have found him and will happily call on him again in the future

John fixed and refinished my Gt Gt Grandfather’s chair that was given to me. The glue had worn out and it has been in pieces for almost 2 years. What an amazing job John did! It looks better than I ever remember and still has that old antique look. My family thought it was about 1865 but after talking to John maybe early 1900. John does amazing work and it fairly priced. He kept me informed throughout the process and sent pictures along the way. I highly recommend him to anyone!

My experience with John and his work on my MCM coffee table was amazing! The 1950’s Johannes Andersen “smile” table I bought was coated with layers of oil and other substances to hide significant stains and markings. I took it to Steffen and John had it stripped and refinished it with the high quality traditional MCM “flat” material that brought the table back to its full beauty. I will go to Steffen for all refurbishment and repair work going forward! He was both reasonable and timely, and his knowledge and skill was highly impressive.

What a find! John did an amazing job touching up two pieces of midcentury modern furniture we recently purchased. The pieces are beautiful, and his touch ups are not seen (we had to look at the before pictures to figure out where the damage was!). Plus, he is just a great human being with a fascinating history in the world of furniture restoration.

They restored three pieces that family members handmade back in the late 1800's and early 1900's. They look so beautiful!
