I have worked here in the beginning of this year (2024) from February - May, I only started attending this program to get help and resources to go back to school and further the career path I already had experience in prior to joining this program. While working for this program I personally experienced disrespect from supervisors and management, My life was threatened by my colleagues (other core members) My paychecks were delayed every month and they paid us 2 times out of the month so when they would finally pay us that only delayed the second paycheck meaning I would only get paid 1 or 0 times a month…..also let’s not forget the amount of sexual harassment that has been reported by core members ( 1 was even a minor who wasn’t supposed to be working there!!) They feed false information and lies to the new members they recruit they only keep hiring people to make the program look good for the city but the city isn’t paying them which is why people have gone a whole month (no one has been paid this November and December is literally next week) without 1 pay check. I am 23 and living on my own that was the main reason I had to leave the program because I wasn’t getting paid and wasn’t able to pay my bills on time almost causing me to lose the roof over my head and finding housing in SF is hard!!! They say they’ll help you with housing and school and finding a job outside of the program. I had to find resources for school on my own outside of the program. They don’t help the youth they use and abuse the youth. I’ve literally been injured on the job and they waiting till the end of the day to take me to a hospital. It is now the end of the year and my ankle is still not properly healed and will never be the same. If you’re looking for a reason to attend this program this is your warning not to. You’ll either end up financially broke, fighting the supervisors or core members or injured with no pay or help.

If you’re thinking of working here, don’t. This organization doesn’t pay its employees on time and violates all sorts of safety and labor regulations, on top of that the staff are very shady and sometimes just straight up mean and entitled. The past 5 checks have been late for a month on average, and they don’t care that people have bills to pay. They also have orientations for new hires and they don’t tell them about late checks at all!!!! Major red flag 🚩🚩🚩 if you like getting paid don’t work here please.

If you are looking for a conservation corps that will give you the training you need to work in conservation or, at the very least, pay you on time, then this is NOT the place for you. I joined this corps a few months ago and have been shocked at the unprofessionalism, lack of respect, and late pay. I have not once received my paycheck on time at this place, and am currently waiting on my paycheck after a month of no pay. There is no communication and nobody ever seems to know what is actually going on here. For your own well-being, I highly recommend looking into other work programs.

EDIT: I wanted to provide more details about what has been happening recently. One paycheck was issued about a month and a half late, about two weeks after I finally decided to quit. I requested that the check be mailed to me. For a week, I was unable to get in contact with anyone over the phone and none of my voicemails received a response when I tried calling to follow up on the status of my check. Finally, I just decided to drive up and pick up my check in person, only to be told that it had been mailed the day before and that I should receive it in two days. It has now been nearly 2 weeks that I have not received it, and they are refusing to reissue the check. Not only have I gone for two months without pay, but I have no idea when I’ll ever actually get the money that this place owes to me despite quitting over a month ago. For your own sanity and wellbeing, please do not join this corps.

UPDATE 2: I have now realized after visiting my local post office that my check was never actually mailed. This place is a scam that employs unprofessionals who will lie to you and steal your money.

terrible company that exploits a lot of youth and once there term is over gives them the boot with little to no recources i got arthritis from this place and nothing out of it...
