Great auto tour and a couple good trails. Lots of wildlife, including plentiful gators. I personally really love how many water birds there are. Walking Cow Trap Marsh is HIGHLY recommended. It's not an easy walk, considering how because of high grass you must lift your knees waist-high with every step, but it's well worth it. Obviously watch for snakes, but there is a truly insane amount of birds. I see a lot of white ibises and snowy egrets where I live in Fort Bend, but the Great Blue Herons were a special treat, and some of them were shockingly large. Bobcat Woods is a nice little walk, very easy and mostly shaded. It goes right by a lookout, and the swamp itself is beautiful. Scissortail trail was grown over, and San Bernard Oak trail was closed, unfortunately. What the marshes offer in wildlife and beautiful views is well worth the drive, and it's free!

Beautiful place. We loved the Bobcat woods trail, it was easy and offered some great bird and alligator watching. We then drove the Moccasin Pond loop where the alligators were plentiful. We would have done more but didn't want to continue to feed the native mosquito population. Bug spray is highly recommended.

Visited the Dow Woods Unit north of Lake Jackson. The unit has a 2.5 mile trail on a gravel and concrete path, easily accessible for anyone including children or handicap. Trail meanders on high ground above the bayou through a hardwoods-palmetto ecosystem. There are some beautiful old oak trees here. Overall nice trails in a picturesque jungle-like setting.

San Bernard NWR offers duck hunting at certain areas of the refuge. Will need a boat to get to the waterfowl hunting areas. There is the Sargent Permit area that's just west of the main NWR. It's by a lottery that is done before the season starts. Unfortunately, I've only been drawn once in the last 4 years. Seasons are canceled if too dry to hunt.

I think it is a nice place, I was there on a Sunday in December, the problem is, that it is closed on Sunday. There was no information found in the internet.

So I can't really say if it is a nice place but I can definitely say, that you will need some bug spray if you go there.

I was there on a sunny windy day 30minutes, and the moskitos destroy me, because I had no spray with me...

From the outside looks very peaceful and there was no traffic, so should be a nice quite place...

I was really impressed with this place! It has nice hiking areas, and a 9-mile auto tour you can drive and enjoy from your car. We saw a wild pig with her 5 baby piglets, alligators, and tons of aquatic birds! It has nice bathrooms at both the main headquarters, and the bobcat trail. It is free which makes it even better! My only wish is that they would put some gravel on the trails for people who want to push strollers. The grass is impossible to push a stroller on, and it's hard to see the wildlife poop you might step on. I think those improvements would make it even more wonderful. I appreciate the hard work that goes into keeping this place running.
