I gave him the impossible task of taking two paintings that were over 100 years old, one severely damaged and another had a table leg had gone through the picture in a residence move. My husband and I bought a beautiful painting from a friend in India which had been hanging on her living room wall for 40 years. It had accumulated a grey patina from years of dust and pollution. Sy cleaned and restored the painting, added a Belgian linen backing and had the painting beautifully framed. My grandparents had a dramatic western scene oil painting over their mantle when I was young. It was painted by an artist from Alameda, Harold Von Schmidt in 1929. A young woman was being abducted by four men on horseback.

Over the years the painting had passed between many family members and been damaged during moves with a large scratch and a stress line in the stretched canvas.

I found Sysphere Conservation through a web search and I am very fortunate for connecting with Sy. He did a brilliant job of fully restoring this painting; the deep scratch was removed, the canvas stretch line was eliminated and the entire painting was properly cleaned. Once done, Sy helped me select a new frame from Bernzweig Framing & Design.

I am forever grateful for their combined efforts to so expertly preserve this family heirloom.

I took a large figurative painting to Sy that had a scrape in the hair and the background. Other restorers would not take the painting because of the complexity of matching the background which was different shades of black. Sy took on the challenge and did an amazing job of matching the background which was no easy task and took several steps. He also did an exceptional job of varnishing the painting and the end result is a gorgeous painting.
